on the rise in the region. hello very good evening i'm kevin zero in this is r.t. it's now eight pm dramatic development in the last breaking news just mentioned there turkey now saying the syrian bound passenger plane that was forced to land in turkey was carrying russian made music munitions moscow earlier said the planes confiscated cargo was not manufactured in russia have sixteen fighter jets intercepted that flight from moscow bound for damascus last night which was carrying thirty seven people let's get up to speed of the teachers are still coming in in the last half hour but tom buttons of course the latest for us hi there tom the situation appears be getting more tense now rather the whole incident doesn't it. yes kevin another twist in this anger. the dispute over this

plane forced to land when it entered turkish airspace russia had previously said when it transpired but turkey had forced the plane to land because it wanted to search it looking for possible weapons or munitions russia had said that any military equipment on board the plane was not made in russia now the turkish prime minister has directly contradicted that and said that they have found munitions on the plane that were made in russia the plane was on route from moscow to damascus when in what is an unusual style of making a plane land turkish f. sixteen fighter jets arrive next to the plane and as route as syria says without warning they very harshly forced this plane to land at ankara and then turkish security services boarded the plane handcuffed the crew and began to search for

gotten worse now a lot of analysts are saying that this seems to be the habit that united states has gotten into they are aligning themselves with the rebel fighters in various countries which are trying to depose all of these so-called dictatorships this was the case in libya of course this was. unfortunately a lot of times the u.s. seems to disregard any voices of concern that a lot of these rebel fighters who are fighting against the regime actually are fighting alongside with al qaida members unfortunately once the u.s. does not. officials disregard these warnings they find themselves in hot water like they did in libya where u.s. ambassador was killed in what is now confirmed as an attack specific lead on a u.s. officials. that attack was thoroughly discussed at the u.s. congressional hearing that found security of the mission highly inadequate but retired cia officer ray mcgovern says that while congressman look for weak spots in

kelly former u.s. foreign service officer is joining us on the line there from washington d.c. george hi there just want to remind our viewers if they're just joined us about our breaking news this hour and there's been a development on this serve syrian airplane that was the force to land last night turkey saying in the last hour that that syria passenger plane was carrying confiscated cargo that was manufactured in russia moscow saying it's not before that this story is escalating tonight let's get your thoughts on it i mean russia's got long standing contracts with damascus that are fully in line with international law so conceivably what might be the point of trying to expose some hidden agenda here what's it all about do you think. well it's all about. what happens in syria i'm not sure exactly what the details are on the plane though if the turks have got something they should show people what it is instead of just saying that they've got something and i thought that the russian argument was

fairly sensible that. since russia and syria have military agreements that if they were sending the quid meant that they would send it on a regular military cargo plane so i'm not quite sure what the turks or after if it was a quick minute if perhaps it was an individual they were after i just don't know and i'm not going to accept what the turks are saying until they can show some evidence for for their complaint. but the problem really is. of the for the problem really is syria what do people do about syria and if countries outside of the united states are looking to washington for guidance the fact is they're not going to get any because at the moment we're in the middle of a very heated presidential election campaign nobody in the oval office is really paying serious attention to syria and so the bureaucracy is continuing to do what it does and that is to have tactical moves at the margins to respond to a plane being forced down there were sponsor refugees in this and that the next

thing one tactical move after another but there's no strategy bureaucracy will continue to grind on diplomats people in the pentagon in their experience in the last twenty years a whole generation of officers have known almost nothing but a war in the middle east as far as they're concerned war is a permanent feature of the middle east at least until all the oil is gone so if anybody outside of washington wants some help from washington and defusing the crisis i'm afraid they'll be disappointed you know just pointing out again here that you know russia's repeatedly stressing that. damascus are in line with international law as you have been saying you've talked about what american reaction is i wonder whether what's happening in america is. affecting what turkey is doing right now and the timing of all what's happened over the last twenty four hours do you think is there any connection there maybe. well i had to be honest i

really think you're going to search in vain for some kind of a rational coherent thought through and consistent policy. reaction from washington as i say the political people in the oval office have checked out they're just not here and i don't think that you're going to find very many adults in charge of either the state department or the pentagon so whatever it is that we're doing we're reacting on a piecemeal basis mr obama look think of it this way he doesn't want to do anything that's going to expose him to charges that he's weak he doesn't want to do anything that's going to expose him to charges that he was weak in the vents in benghazi so he he's not he's not going to take them to the center the sensible step would be to go with russia with china and try to find some way of defusing the situation it's a moderately serious situation in syria to say the risk of.

bad things happening on a scale of one to ten would be about a five that's quite serious but you're just not going to get a sensible coherent strategic response to this from washington how do these allegations today from the turkish prime minister. sit when there are reports that syrian rebels were previously getting heavy arms via to kish territory. they probably are. again it's a mess because everybody in a in a small sense is thinking that they're doing the rational thing we've seen this in history repeatedly notably in the first world war but when you have a lot of little actors all trying to do what seems rational to them they make a lot of little mistakes that can compound into a very very big mistake that's much bigger than the little mistakes and the risk is that if syria blows up and the areas the countries around it start to become

destabilized we don't know nobody knows kevin well what could happen and so the prudent thing to do is to try to keep the situation under control and to reduce tensions if assad were to leave for example to moscow that would help but the only way to get something like that to happen is if washington and moscow were to cooperate at the at the moment they're not cooperating i mean if you look at the. the the none lucar arms control agreement that has been the disposed of apparently let's ashame is a very important agreement that worked very well for many years you know relations at the moment are very good and and a lot of that most of it in my view is our fault george while you're on the line. capacity as a former u.s. and foreign service officers i wonder where this information came last night about the syrian air a three twenty there are reports that the u.s. passed information about the syrian plane to take before it was forced to correct
